Post-world War ii united states
Shortly after Japan surrendered, World War II subsided. The soldiers returned home and peace was restored, however there was a whole new problem beginning to arise: The Soviet Union was seeking to spread communism. post-war Baby Boom
After World War II ended and the soldiers returned home, there was a population expansion that took place between the years 1946 and 1964. This population growth is known as the baby boom. Some historians believe that this is due to the soldiers desire for normalcy after war. The population increased by around 19 million. This baby boom is expected to cause economic problems for programs like 401(k) and Social Security. The graph below depicts the population increase due to the baby boom.
Cold war
The Cold War was a Post-War rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union was trying to spread communism, while anti-communist United States was doing what they could to prevent the spread. President Truman created the Truman Doctrine which provided aid to struggling countries in hopes of stopping the spread of communism. The Cold War came to an end in 1991, after the fall of the Soviet Union.
Civil rights movement
The Civil Rights Movement was a mass population movement to gain equal rights for African Americans. The peak of this movement occurred between 1950-1960. Also, women fought for equality in the work place and equal pay as men. To no longer be treated as a second class citizen.
Mixbook project
Using the online book creation website, MixBook, we had to individually write a book about Post-War United States. Within the book we must cover the three topics: The Cold War, Domestic Policy, and The Civil Rights Movement, in at least 12 pages and no more than 25 pages.
